Tartan Kilts

Many folks get confused on the Tartan, Scottish, and Irish Kilts, a Tartan is a specially woven wool, the distinction of the tartan being woven is in the color bands and once these bands or “sett” is complete it is repeated over and over to make the colorful woolen material know as Tartan!
The kilt is a knee-length,with pleats at the rear, the kilts origin are based in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Highlands of Scotland in the16th century. During the 19th century it has been associated with the Scottish culture in general, and with Celtic heritage in other parts of the world. It is made of woolen cloth woven in a tartan pattern.
Though the Scottish kilt is most often worn mainly on formal occasions or at Highland Games, it has also been adapted as an item of informal, and formal, male clothing in recent years.
Tartan kilts are made in one of approximately 4500 Tartans that are currently available, you can select you family tartan, which is most typical. Or you can select a National or District tartan, these are a tartan that can be worn by any Scotsman with out Clan affiliation.
Kilts are available it 3 weights 10oz or lightweight, this is also know as the “Reiver” a 13oz medium weight knows as the “Braeriach” and the 16oz heavy weight commonly known as the “Strome”.
